NFL steals New Year's Day thunder

January 2, 2012 - Chris Dobrowolski
I'm still trying to tell myself that it's 2012. Or that yesterday was New Year's Day. It didn't help that there wasn't a full day's worth of bowl games on Jan. 1. Oh, I spent my New Year's Day on the couch watching football. More like watching the Packers' Matt Flynn turn into a Pro Bowler before our very eyes against the Lions. But not having college games to watch on the most sacred of days for college football was a bit of a letdown. Because of that I think the NFL should think twice next time Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday and schedule all of its games for either Dec. 31 or Jan. 2. I know as the sporting behemoth the NFL is that it can do what it wants and laugh at everyone else. But if the league truly did care about fans, which I assume it does considering the fans are the ones who have made the league as popular as ever, it would do the right thing and let college football have the spotlight on the 1st of the year.
