Are you ready...

October 6, 2011 - Bill Speer
It figures.

Since 1989 every Monday Night Football game played has opened with Hank Williams Jr. singing "Are You Ready for Some Football?" The song and football game have been synonymous with each other, like bread and butter.

No longer will that be the case.

This week, after Williams made an analogy between President Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler in a Fox News story, ESPN - the television network that carries Monday Night Football, decided to drop Williams as part of the show.

So, with Monday being the first time the Detroit Lions have appeared on Monday Night Football since 2001, there will be no Hank Williams.

Bummer. Why does the Detroit game have to be the first without Williams?

Oh well, Lions fans at least will have Barry Sanders back for the game. Sanders is narrating the intro for this classic rivalry game.

So Lions Fans, are you ready for some football?

Mr. Speer is a big time hater posing as a religious man...what a sad joke he is. He has no morals except spewing the wingnut party line. He has to tread carefully here, as he would take us back to the gilded age, cutting everything for the poor and protecting the rich, but he lives in a retirement community and has to mask his words carefully. My friends and parents read his editorials for a good laugh every day...and don't forget Mr. Fletcher (let 'em eat cake), when you're well off, economics is fun and interesting! What a joke! This too shall pass...change is coming whether we all want it or not, and old dinosaurs such as there will fade away, remnants of an era long gone. Never heard from these nutjobs when Bush was breaking the bank, so they're being strictly partisan here. Warmonger!

The Real Story, today, is the "horrific sex scandal" , more specifically the sexual assault of little boys. In Alpena County, sexual assault and rape within the family and outside the family have been tolerated /hush hushed and swept under the rug for decades. In this County, E V E R O N E has a story that about a person who was the victim of sexual assault or knows a person who did the assault. Why is it that nobody ever comes forward when the victim is at a sports club, church or in the family house?(Hey Kortman family, wake up, your dirty little secrets are not going away) I like to invite you to discuss this with me on this blog.

I can't believe anyone would stand up for this buffoon. What a disgraceful moron, irregardless of his "Hitler" comment. I for one, as a rabid football fan, am thrilled he is off the air but a little disturbed that the editor of our paper goes out of his way to stick up for the awipe.

notsofamamos. I see you still have not changed. I have been gone and get back and see you are still spewing the same thing that you smoke. Disease written all over what you exhale.

"Bummer" Mr. Speer? Our president is not trying to commit genocide and is not our enemy and yet you support this turkey who claims Barry is! What is even worse is your calling the Alpena News a "mirror" of our community in an editorial that you no longer let us respond to. If I saw The News reflected I'd figurativley risk seven years bad luck. Next you will be supporting Ric Perry who said,'save a pretzel for the gas jets and drink some hot and yellow kool-aid.' We all know about you kool-aid pushers.

At least this game will be in high definition without the red neck.
